Honoring a Mission Well Accomplished: SCA and Daughters of Charity Honor Sr. Terexa Hien’s Mission in Ghana

The Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Safe-Child Advocacy (SCA), St. Louise Vocational Training Centre and beneficiaries came together on Thursday, 24th September 2026, to celebrate and honor Sr. Terexa Hien, DC, as she concluded her two-year missionary service in Ghana.

Sr. Terexa, a Vietnamese Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, arrived in Ghana on 28th September 2024 with a mission to serve children, youth and women in street and other vulnerable situations in Kumasi and beyond. What began as a mission assignment soon became a journey of friendship, dedication and service that touched many lives.

Throughout her time at SCA, Sr. Terexa became a valued member of the team. Whether accompanying outreach activities, participating in street corner education, supporting administrative work, or contributing to field programmes, she carried out every responsibility with commitment and enthusiasm. Her service in the accounting unit also reflected her strong sense of accountability, transparency, and stewardship of resources.

At St. Louise Vocational Training Centre, Sr. Terexa was much more than a missionary. She became a supportive sister, a caring presence and a friend to both the community and the beneficiaries. Her humility, kindness, and willingness to serve whenever she was needed earned her the admiration of all who worked with her.

The send-off ceremony provided an opportunity for sisters, staff, and beneficiaries to express their gratitude and share personal tributes. Many described Sr. Terexa as diligent, compassionate, kind, committed and deeply conscious of stewardship. A special video presentation featuring members of the Daughters of Charity, staff of SCA, Talitha Kum Ghana, St. Louise Vocational Training Centre, and several beneficiaries highlighted the many lives she touched during her mission.

Speaking at the event, Sr. Olivia Umoh, DC, Director of Safe-Child Advocacy, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Sr. Terexa and the Daughters of Charity Province of Vietnam for her dedicated service and invaluable contributions over the past two years. Sr. Olivia commended Sr. Terexa’s attentiveness, humility, strong presence in the field, and readiness to support colleagues and beneficiaries alike.

As part of the celebration, Mr. Akwasi Prempeh, Human Resource and Administration Officer of SCA, presented a citation on behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff of Safe-Child Advocacy in recognition of Sr. Terexa’s outstanding service and commitment. Staff members and beneficiaries also presented gifts as symbols of their gratitude and affection.

Representing the Daughters of Charity, Sr. Gertrude Gima, DC, Sister Servant of St. Louise de Marillac Community in Kumasi, and Sr. Roseline Dee, DC, Council Member of the Daughters of Charity Province of Nigeria, conveyed appreciation on behalf of the Provincial Superior and invoked God’s blessings upon Sr. Terexa as she prepares for her next missionary assignment.

In her response, Sr. Terexa expressed gratitude to her Provincial Superior for the opportunity to serve in Ghana. She reflected on her experience, noting that it was her first time in Africa and that the mission had enriched her life with invaluable experiences and lessons. She also thanked Sr. Olivia, the staff of SCA, and the entire community for their warm reception, accompaniment and support throughout her stay.

The celebration concluded with a festive reception, laughter, shared memories, and group photographs that captured the joy and gratitude of the occasion.
