Rev. Sr. Catherine Eking, the outgoing Sister- in-charge of St. Louise Vocational Training Center, and immediate past Sister Servant of the Daughters of Charity Community in Kumasi, was on Friday 26th May 2023 honored with an elegant farewell ceremony at the premises of the Training Center. The send-off program was organized by Safe-Child Advocacy under the leadership of Rev. Sr. Olivia Umoh, the Director of the organization and management staff of SCA.
After assuming office in January 2013, Sr. Catherine served for over a decade at the Vocational
Training Center, offering her experience in dress-making with dexterity and selflessness to girls in skill training. As a sister in charge, she also oversaw the training of beneficiaries in hairdressing and catering skills as the center works towards empowering potentially vulnerable girls to become self-reliant in the future.
The ceremony began with a Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Joseph Osei Tutu, the Parish of Appiadu St. Paul’s Catholic Church Appiadu, together with his assistant and two other priests who have been volunteering at SCA for a few weeks. The entire staff of Safe-Child Advocacy, representatives of neighboring sister congregations, and past and present trainees were all present to grace the occasion.
Characterized by a mixture of feelings, the occasion saw a beautiful display of Ghanaian and Nigerian cultures, well-crafted speeches, complimentary poems, drama, and choreography. Also, gifts were presented by individuals and groups as a token of appreciation. Sr. Catherine, in response, expressed her appreciation for the honor done to her and wished the Safe-Child Advocacy organization the best of luck in the quest to foster a society where children enjoy safe childhood and develop their potential to the fullest. She is expected to hand over duties to Rev. Sr. Bridget Abba from Nigeria who is also a Daughter of Charity Sister.
Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac community Kumasi marked the feast day of St. Patrick in style on Sunday March 16, 2025, at St. Louise de Marillac Vocational Training Centre. The event was attended by about hundred (100) people including beneficiaries living at St. Louise de Marillac community and some special guests who were invited to witness the celebration. This global celebration of Irish culture is held on 17th March annually, to commemorate the feast day of Saint Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint.
The event, a first of its kind at the vocational training center, showcased a vibrant display of Irish, Vietnamese, German, and African cultures, accompanied by a sumptuous party. It was spearheaded by volunteers of Vincentian Lay Missionaries who are working at Safe- Child Advocacy, Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi for six (6) weeks and was actively supported by Daughters of Charity sisters serving at Safe- Child Advocacy and St. Louise de Marillac Vocational Training Centre.

Invited guests and participants at the center were thrilled to participate in the joyful celebration.
The activities included celebrating the remarkable contribution of countless women who have shaped and continue to shape the world for the better, music and dance, and an impressive choreography.
The event aimed to foster a sense of community and appreciation for women’s empowerment.
Talitha Kum Ghana: Nationwide Awareness Creation on the World Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking – 8th February 2025
On 8th February 2025, the ConPAHT Talitha Kum Ghana joined the global community to mark the World Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking with series of awareness creation activities across all 16 regions of Ghana. This day, dedicated to raising awareness about the realities of human trafficking, was observed through various educational and community engagement programs in schools, churches, and local communities.
The network members carried out activities in key locations such as Appiadu and Santasi Apire in the Ashanti Region, Ahafo Keyansi, Tamale in the Northern Region, Donkorkrom, Cape Coast in the Central Region, and Sunyani- Fiapre in the Bono region. These sessions focused on educating participants about the dangers of human trafficking, how to identify potential trafficking situations, and the importance of reporting suspected cases to authorities.
In schools, interactive sessions were held to empower students with knowledge on safe migration and how traffickers often operate. In churches and communities, the network engaged congregants through prayer, discussions, and the sharing of survivor stories to foster empathy and collective action against trafficking.
The day’s activities reinforced the network’s commitment to combating human trafficking through education, community engagement, and prayer. Talitha Kum Ghana Network remains steadfast in its mission to create a trafficking-free society, protecting the most vulnerable and supporting survivors on their path to healing and reintegration.

The Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac Vocational Training Centre in the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, has proudly graduated its 9th cohort of vocational skill trainees. Ten dedicated students, comprising six dressmakers/fashion designers and four hairdressers, successfully completed their two-year training program.
On Saturday, October 5th, the graduates received their National Vocational and Testing Institutes (NVTI) Certificate (1) after passing their exams in April 2024 Watch the exams video here. A vibrant graduation ceremony was held to honor their achievement, attended by parents, loved ones, and members of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, Ghana.
To empower these young women to transform their lives, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, through the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious Ghana, provided setup materials and accessories for their respective trades.
The Daughters of Charity sisters at St. Louise de Marillac community encouraged the graduates to utilize their newfound skills and resources to improve their living standards.

Safe – Child Advocacy (SCA) and Talitha Kum Ghana participated in a five-day workshop on Advocacy Against Early and Child Marriage and Domestic Servitude from 2nd to 6th September 2024, at Sunyani Catholic Pastoral Centre, Sunyani Diocese.
The life-changing workshop was organized by Africa Faith and Justice Network – Ghana, a faith based Catholic Organization with the sole aim of speaking for the voiceless. Under the leadership of Sr. Ignatia S. Buaben, National coordinator, and with distinguished speakers like Very Rev. Fr. Peter Okure Aniedi, General promoter for Justice and Peace, and Permanent Delegate to United Nations and Ms. Glennan Lois Boakye – Yiadom, astute Lawyer and member of Ghana Bar Association.
The workshop opened our eyes to the devastating impact these harmful practices have on young girls and women: and it further provided valuable training that equipped our team with essential knowledge about the laws and resources available for protecting girls, boys and women from these heinous practices.
In attendance were over sixty (60) participants, comprising of religious men and women, social impact organizations, parents and youth advocates.
Safe-Child Advocacy and ConPAHT Talitha Kum Ghana is poised at leveraging this knowledge and skills to reinforce our organizations commitment to uphold the dignity of humanity and combat human exploitation through advocacy, awareness creation, networking, capacity building and support services for victims and survivors.

Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi Safe-Child Advocacy bids farewell to three staff members.
The Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi’s Safe-Child Advocacy (SCA) recently bid farewell to three dedicated staff members at two separate send-off ceremonies held on July 29 and August 6, 2024. The heartfelt events honored Sr. Maria-Goretti Onwuatuegwu, DC, Mrs. Jessica Deh Adom-Darko, and Ms. Hannah Glandorf for their remarkable contributions to the organization.
Sr. Maria Goretti, former headmistress of St. Vincent de Paul Day Care and member of St. Louise de Marillac community, was celebrated for her tireless efforts before her transfer from Ghana. Meanwhile, Ms. Hannah Glandorf, a German volunteer, was recognized for her selfless dedication to serving the vulnerable in Kumasi over the past year.
On August 6, 2024, SCA held another impressive send-off ceremony for Mrs. Jessica Deh, the organization’s longest-serving Programmes Manager. The occasion was a testament to her exceptional leadership, professionalism, and dedication over the past nine years.
The board, management, and staff of SCA expressed their deepest gratitude to the outgoing staff members for their unwavering commitment, passion, and invaluable contributions to serving children, youth, and women in vulnerable situations in Kumasi and beyond. As they embark on new journeys, SCA wishes them continued success and fulfillment in all their future endeavors.
The Ghana network of Consecrated Persons Against Human Trafficking (ConPAHT-Talitha Kum Ghana), concludes its highly productive four-day meeting in Accra, Ghana, from July 25-29, 2024.
Chaired by the National Coordinator Sr. Olivia Umoh, DC. The 2024 annual in-person meeting was attended by 27 members representing twenty-one 21 Religious Congregations and 5 non-governmental organizations in Ghana. The opening session started with a solemn prayer ritual led by Sr. Helen Galadima, SSND. Members presented symbols of their experiences of the network. The opening session was further enriched by a welcome address by Sr. Christina Doggu, HHCJ, who represented the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious in Ghana (CMSRGH).Sr. Yvonne Bambara, the Regional Coordinator, gave her opening remark, crowned with an address by the International Coordinator of Sr. Abbey Avelino, MM.
The in-person meeting aims: to strengthen the network to be a formidable body against human trafficking;offered new members the opportunity for learning about human trafficking and the network; for sharing interventions and experiences of members in their efforts to combat human trafficking; evaluates the progress of programs and activities implemented by congregations and units; planning and setting goals and objectives for the next project phase; ensuring a unified and effective approach to combating human trafficking.
The meeting featured presentations of reports from the International Assembly of Talitha Kum in Rome and the Conrad Hilton Convening in Zambia, delivered by the Secretary and the National Coordinator of the Network respectively.
The climax of the meeting was awareness campaign, which took place in local churches and communities in Pokuase, Mayera, and their environs on today Sunday 28 July 2024.
The campaign was strategically planned to mark the UN International Day Against Human Trafficking which comes up on July 30. A day set out to raise awareness and mobilize action against this heinous crime.”
In line with her obligations as Provincial Superior of Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, Province of Nigeria, Sr. Ifeoma Arinze, DC, visited the Daughters of Charity Community in the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, Ghana.
The Nigeria Province comprises of three West African countries namely, Nigeria, Ghana and Burkina Faso. And St. Louise de Marillac Community serves as the residence for Daughters of Charity Sisters who work for the vulnerable in Kumasi and beyond at Safe-Child Advocacy, St. Louise de Marillac Vocational Training Centre and St. Vincent de Paul Day Care.
It was a regular (canonical) visit to the community and services of the Daughters of Charity in Ghana. Her visit was from June 24 to 30, 2024 and it created the opportunity for the Superior to meet the sisters, staff and some beneficiaries of their institutions within the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi.
The Visitatrix was elated with the level of expertise and dedication the team of staff put in their work. She expressed the appreciation of the province for the committed assistance the team are offering to help the sisters in serving the poor and the most vulnerable. She also encouraged the staff to imbibe the charisma of Saints, Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac.
The staff of these centers also used the opportunity to thank all the Daughters of Charity Sisters for the wonderful works the sisters are doing for the poor and vulnerable in Kumasi and Ghana at large.
