St. Vincent de Paul Day Care, a unit of Safe‑Child Advocacy, celebrated our Opening Mass today to mark the beginning of a new calendar and academic year. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Fr. Edward, a diocesan priest from St. Peter’s Cathedral Basilica, Kumasi, who led the children and staff in thanking God for His guidance throughout the past year and for blessing the school with a renewed start filled with hope and promise.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Edward encouraged the pupils to “take Jesus as their friend.” Drawing from the Gospel account of Jesus calling the twelve disciples and sending them on mission, he reminded the children that Jesus continues to call each of them personally. As friends of Jesus, he urged them to avoid fighting, stealing, and all behaviours that do not honour Him.
To reinforce the message, Father Edward taught the pupils a simple, inspiring song:
“I have a friend, I have a friend,
I have a friend, His name is Jesus,
The Son of my Lord.
Jesus is my friend.”
Children who confidently sang the song individually were rewarded with small gifts of toffee, bringing joy and excitement to the celebration.
Father Edward further encouraged the pupils to demonstrate their friendship with Jesus by being obedient, respectful, and well‑behaved—especially towards parents, teachers, and elders. He concluded the Mass with prayers for God’s blessings and protection over all pupils, staff, and the entire Day Care facility.
In her closing remarks, Sr. Victoria Kotetane, DC, Headmistress of the Day Care, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks. She expressed appreciation to the staff, parents, and Rev. Fr. Edward for their commitment and participation. She also acknowledged the unwavering support of Safe‑Child Advocacy, whose supervision, resources, and dedication continue to enhance the growth and quality of the Day Care Centre.
The ceremony ended on a note of gratitude and renewed spiritual strength, setting a hopeful tone for a successful and fruitful academic year ahead.
