Celebrating 20 Years of Serving Children, Youths, and Women in Street and Other Vulnerable Situations

On Sunday, 28th September 2025, the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul Sisters, staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries of Safe-Child Advocacy (SCA), under the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, began the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of both Safe-Child Advocacy and De Marillac Centre (DMC).

The celebration commenced with a thanksgiving service held during all three Masses at St. Peterโ€™s Cathedral Basilica, Roman Hill โ€“ Kumasi. It was a moment of deep gratitude and reflection on two decades of unwavering service to children, youths, and women in street and other vulnerable situations.

Following the Holy Mass, a grand party was hosted at SCAโ€™s drop-in centre, welcoming around 150 attendees. The event featured vibrant cultural displays, solidarity messages from the Provincial Superior of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Nigeria Province, the Sociology Department of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and sister NGOs working to empower vulnerable populations. Heartfelt testimonies from beneficiaries and past beneficiaries added depth to the celebration, all shared amidst sumptuous food and drinks.

The official climax of the anniversary took place on Friday, 3rd October 2025, during a joint virtual webinar hosted by SCA and DMC. The 3-hour online event attracted 120 registrants and 60 active participants from across the globe, especially from Ghana and Nigeria.

During the Zoom conference, distinguished guests including Rev. Fr. Justine Eke, Father Director of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Nigeria Province; Sr. Ifeoma Arinze, DC, Provincial Superior; Sr. Franca Edet, DC, former Provincial Superior; and former staff and volunteers of SCA shared their experiences and expressed heartfelt appreciation for the life-changing services their congregation continues to offer in Ghana and Nigeria.

We honour the tireless commitment to protecting children’s rights and ensuring their safety within our communities. Here’s to many more years of service, hope, and advocacy.

This moment was a powerful recognition of the enduring mission to be a voice and shield for vulnerable children. May this spiritual reflection renew our strength for the future of child protection.
