Rev. Sr. Catherine Eking, the outgoing Sister- in-charge of St. Louise Vocational Training Center, and immediate past Sister Servant of the Daughters of Charity Community in Kumasi, was on Friday 26th May 2023 honored with an elegant farewell ceremony at the premises of the Training Center. The send-off program was organized by Safe-Child Advocacy under the leadership of Rev. Sr. Olivia Umoh, the Director of the organization and management staff of SCA.
After assuming office in January 2013, Sr. Catherine served for over a decade at the Vocational
Training Center, offering her experience in dress-making with dexterity and selflessness to girls in skill training. As a sister in charge, she also oversaw the training of beneficiaries in hairdressing and catering skills as the center works towards empowering potentially vulnerable girls to become self-reliant in the future.
The ceremony began with a Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Joseph Osei Tutu, the Parish of Appiadu St. Paul’s Catholic Church Appiadu, together with his assistant and two other priests who have been volunteering at SCA for a few weeks. The entire staff of Safe-Child Advocacy, representatives of neighboring sister congregations, and past and present trainees were all present to grace the occasion.
Characterized by a mixture of feelings, the occasion saw a beautiful display of Ghanaian and Nigerian cultures, well-crafted speeches, complimentary poems, drama, and choreography. Also, gifts were presented by individuals and groups as a token of appreciation. Sr. Catherine, in response, expressed her appreciation for the honor done to her and wished the Safe-Child Advocacy organization the best of luck in the quest to foster a society where children enjoy safe childhood and develop their potential to the fullest. She is expected to hand over duties to Rev. Sr. Bridget Abba from Nigeria who is also a Daughter of Charity Sister.
