St. Anthony’s Group Bakes Hope, Delivers Abundance to Safe-Child Advocacy Mission

Kumasi, Ghana – October 30, 2025 – In a remarkable demonstration of community spirit and faith, the St. Anthony’s Group from St. Peter’s Basilica Cathedral in Kumasi has made a significant impact by donating “St. Anthony’s Bread” and essential food items to the Safe-Child Advocacy Mission. This act of generosity arrives at a crucial moment, providing vital support for vulnerable girls served by the mission, as well as those attending the St. Louise de Marillac Vocational Training Centre. The donation not only reflects the compassionate legacy of their patron saint but also underscores the commitment of local organizations to uplift their community during challenging times.

Inspired by St. Anthony of Padua’s firm devotion to the poor and marginalized, the group prepared their renowned “St. Anthony’s Bread” — a symbol of nourishment and hope. Their efforts extended far beyond the traditional loaves, encompassing a wide array of food items specifically chosen to support the children under Safe-Child Advocacy’s care.

Upon receiving the bountiful donation, Sr. Olivia Umoh (DC), Director of Safe-Child Advocacy, expressed deep gratitude and emotion. “This is truly a blessing upon blessings for Safe-Child Advocacy and the St. Louise de Marillac girls,” Sr. Olivia stated, her voice filled with heartfelt appreciation. “You came at the absolute right time. Our girls’ store at the Vocational Training Centre was empty. We thank the St. Anthony’s Group for remembering us, and we acknowledge God’s providence for offering this ‘St. Anthony’s Bread’ to the girls who are in need.”

This initiative beautifully echoes the tradition of “St. Anthony’s Bread,” where alms are given to the poor as an act of thanksgiving. The St. Anthony’s Group has transformed this spiritual practice into tangible support, directly impacting the lives of young girls striving for a brighter future through education and vocational training. Their actions embody the very essence of selfless service and Christian charity.

The Safe-Child Advocacy Mission, a beacon of hope for street-connected and vulnerable children, relies heavily on such acts of kindness to continue its vital work. The timely arrival of these provisions ensures that the girls at the St. Louise de Marillac Vocational Training Centre and St. Vincent de Paul Day Care continue their studies and training without the added burden of food insecurity.

“May the Good Lord bless you abundantly, and may St. Anthony pray for us,” Sr. Olivia concluded, her words a testament to the profound impact this donation will have.
