Chaired by the National Coordinator Sr. Olivia Umoh, DC. The 2024 annual in-person meeting was attended by 27 members representing twenty-one 21 Religious Congregations and 5 non-governmental organizations in Ghana. The opening session started with a solemn prayer ritual led by Sr. Helen Galadima, SSND. Members presented symbols of their experiences of the network. The opening session was further enriched by a welcome address by Sr. Christina Doggu, HHCJ, who represented the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious in Ghana (CMSRGH). Sr. Yvonne Bambara, the Regional Coordinator, gave her opening remark, crowned with an address by the International Coordinator of Sr. Abbey Avelino, MM.
The in-person meeting aims: to strengthen the network to be a formidable body against human trafficking; offered new members the opportunity for learning about human trafficking and the network; for sharing interventions and experiences of members in their efforts to combat human trafficking; evaluates the progress of programs and activities implemented by congregations and units; planning and setting goals and objectives for the next project phase; ensuring a unified and effective approach to combating human trafficking.
The meeting featured presentations of reports from the International Assembly of Talitha Kum in Rome and the Conrad Hilton Convening in Zambia, delivered by the Secretary and the National Coordinator of the Network respectively.
The climax of the meeting was awareness campaign, which took place in local churches and communities in Pokuase, Mayera, and their environs on today Sunday 28 July 2024.
The campaign was strategically planned to mark the UN International Day Against Human Trafficking which comes up on July 30. A day set out to raise awareness and mobilize action against this heinous crime.”
