As we mark the International Day for Street Children today, Safe‑Child Advocacy aligns with the global call to listen to street‑connected children and place their voices, experiences, and rights at the centre of all efforts to protect them. This year’s reflection challenges us not only to see children in street situations, but to truly hear them, understand the factors that push them onto the streets, and act decisively to safeguard their dignity and future.
Children living and working on the streets face multiple layers of vulnerability such as exposure to violence, poor health, lack of education, exploitation, and harmful practices like child marriage. Listening to them means responding with compassion, protection, and practical interventions that address both immediate needs and long‑term solutions.
In commemoration of this important day, Safe‑Child Advocacy is undertaking a series of activities aimed at promoting protection, awareness, and access to essential services for street‑connected children. These include:
- Awareness campaigns through media engagements and school visits to amplify the voices of street children and educate the public on child rights and protection.
- Health insurance registration, renewal, and NHIS card replacement for street‑connected children to improve their access to healthcare.
- A webinar on ending child marriage, aimed at strengthening protection systems and addressing one of the key risks faced by vulnerable children, especially girls.
Through these actions, Safe‑Child Advocacy reaffirms its commitment to advocacy, prevention, and direct support for children in street situations and their families. We call on government agencies, community leaders, civil society organizations, the media, and the public to join hands in creating safe, inclusive environments where no child is forced to the streets and every child is protected, heard, and valued.
💙 Every child matters. Every voice counts. Every child deserves a future filled with hope.
