Today is the International Day of the Girl Child.

The girl child, like every human person, is created in the image and likeness of God. This means each and every girl irrespective of race, ethnicity, tribe, educational background, or religion must be treated with dignity and respect.
It is appalling that in the 21st century, certain cultures, Perceptions and practices still relegate the girl child to the background and oppress them.

Just yesterday we encountered and addressed the case of one of our beneficiaries who was being forced to get married because culture demands that when a brother finds a wife, his sister is used as the bride price to the wife’s family who gives her to be married to whoever they please within their family. Imagine the future a girl who is a victim of such circumstances would have. This is just an example of the several injustices, discriminations and violations of human rights girls have to suffer by virtue of being a female.

Indeed, our time is now. Now is the time to stop believes and practices that devalues the girl child and rips off their dignity as a human person.Human right is inalienable to the human person and every person be it male or female must enjoy it. When you come across such violations, don’t keep mute. Speak up. Seek the needed help. Our time is now- Our rights, Our future.
Let’s come together to promote the right and freedoms of the girl child whilst upholding their dignity.

Together we are Louder!!!
