“Small actions lead to big changes. On World Environment Day, let’s commit to turning off lights when not in use, conserving water, and reducing waste. Together we can create a sustainable future!!!”
As an advocate for children, youth, and women in the street and other vulnerable situations, we highlight that our environment is crucial to catering for the young and unborn generations. Our commitment to the vulnerable also extends to how we act as stewards of our environment which suffers from the effects of ozone depletion, pollution, and changing weather patterns.
As part of efforts to commemorate this day, we at SCA have organized an intensive clean-up exercise to commemorate this occasion. We take this opportunity to call on everyone as a matter of urgency, to consciously help preserve the environment by avoiding littering, engaging in responsible waste collection, avoiding energy wastage by switching gadgets off when not in use, cleaning our vicinity and gutters regularly, and championing all acts that promote the serenity of our environment.
Nature is our greatest teacher, and it’s time we listen. Join us this World Environment Day (June 5 and beyond) in reconnecting with the natural world. Take a walk, plant a tree, or simply enjoy the beauty around us. Let’s cherish and protect our planet!
SCA: Serving Children Youths and Women in Street and Other Vulnerable Situations!!!
Rev. Sr. Catherine Eking, the outgoing Sister- in-charge of St. Louise Vocational Training Center, and immediate past Sister Servant of the Daughters of Charity Community in Kumasi, was on Friday 26th May 2023 honored with an elegant farewell ceremony at the premises of the Training Center. The send-off program was organized by Safe-Child Advocacy under the leadership of Rev. Sr. Olivia Umoh, the Director of the organization and management staff of SCA.
After assuming office in January 2013, Sr. Catherine served for over a decade at the Vocational
Training Center, offering her experience in dress-making with dexterity and selflessness to girls in skill training. As a sister in charge, she also oversaw the training of beneficiaries in hairdressing and catering skills as the center works towards empowering potentially vulnerable girls to become self-reliant in the future.
The ceremony began with a Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Joseph Osei Tutu, the Parish of Appiadu St. Paul’s Catholic Church Appiadu, together with his assistant and two other priests who have been volunteering at SCA for a few weeks. The entire staff of Safe-Child Advocacy, representatives of neighboring sister congregations, and past and present trainees were all present to grace the occasion.
Characterized by a mixture of feelings, the occasion saw a beautiful display of Ghanaian and Nigerian cultures, well-crafted speeches, complimentary poems, drama, and choreography. Also, gifts were presented by individuals and groups as a token of appreciation. Sr. Catherine, in response, expressed her appreciation for the honor done to her and wished the Safe-Child Advocacy organization the best of luck in the quest to foster a society where children enjoy safe childhood and develop their potential to the fullest. She is expected to hand over duties to Rev. Sr. Bridget Abba from Nigeria who is also a Daughter of Charity Sister.
As social workers and an institution dedicated to helping children living on the streets, we celebrate International Workers’ Day with a deep sense of purpose and commitment to our cause.
Our work as social workers is critical in ensuring that children living on the streets receive the support they need to thrive. We recognize that the issues facing these children are complex and require a holistic approach to address them effectively.
As we mark this special day, we want to acknowledge the incredible efforts of all the social workers and staff who have dedicated their lives to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children. Your dedication and hard work have been instrumental in transforming the lives of countless children who had nowhere else to turn.
We also want to extend our gratitude to the communities and partners who have supported our work over the years. Without your support, our efforts would not be possible.
As we commemorate Workers’ Day, let us reaffirm our dedication to our mission of safeguarding the well-being of all children and ensuring that their rights are upheld. We are resolute in our conviction that every child should have an opportunity to realize their full potential, and we will persist in our tireless efforts towards this objective.

The International Day for Street Children 2023 was marked on the 12th of April 2023 with the theme ” Keeping Street Children Safe”.
In accordance with the saying ” Nothing about us without us,” Safe-Child Advocacy organized a 1-day workshop for children in street situations. The workshop gave participants the platform to tell their stories and suggest ways their development and safety can be assured.
Participants shared their thoughts and feelings on safety on the street in a focus group discussion. They revealed vulnerability to sexual abuse, diseases, flooding, theft, cheating, and emotional abuse among others made them feel unsafe and would like government and other stakeholders to support them by protecting their rights and providing them with opportunities for skill training, and scholarships. Many thanks to Adamfo Ghana Netherlands, who supported us provide each girl with a pack of food, drink, and hygiene packs made up of toothpaste, toothbrush, washing soap, bathing soap, and sanitary pads.
Safe-Child Advocacy joins the rest of the world to mark the International Day for Street Children. Today, we recognize the millions of children around the globe who are forced to live on the streets without access to basic needs such as shelter, food, education, and healthcare.
As we commemorate this day, we want to bring your attention to the powerful messages conveyed by our children in the photos. The signs held up by these young ones capture the harsh realities faced by street children on a daily basis.
It’s heartbreaking to see how innocent children are forced to beg for their survival, sleep on pavements, and face the dangers of exploitation and abuse. We cannot turn a blind eye to this situation. Instead, we must come together to support programs and initiatives that will help provide a safe and secure future for these children.
Join us as we raise awareness and advocate for the rights of street children. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these vulnerable children and provide them with the opportunities they need to thrive.
