Today we are reflecting on โ€œThe Power of Careโ€ in addressing human trafficking.

Human Trafficking is a global problem, perpetrated by a network of trafficking gangs as such each individual has to get involved and contribute to eradicate this ugly dehumanizing activity from our world.Poverty and unemployment are the major push factors that cause people to get into the situation of trafficking in Ghana. Especially in times like these when the economy is so hard and inflation is on the increase, people are likely to jump at any opportunity that promises a better future for them and end up in the situation of trafficking. One amazing thing is how trafficking is perpetrated by persons who are closest or in the position of trust with the victim.

This speaks volumes on how the power of care can help put a stop to trafficking. Like the Bible says love your neighbor as yourself. If you do not want to be exploited, taken advantage of, or sold into slavery do not do that to your neighbor. However, it is unfortunate traffickers are bound to keep taking advantage of persons in situations of vulnerability.
How do we therefore prevent this from continuing. Let us care for those who are around us. Do not turn a blind eye to the cry of the house help living next door and crying every day as a result of abuse and labour exploitation. Many efforts have been focused on external trafficking neglecting the exploitation of children in our homes and societies. Victims are often left voiceless and completely unseen by society. Fratelli Tutti, we are all brothers and sisters. Let us care for the voiceless in society.Offer some support to uplift those who are in situations of poverty and so cannot train themselves in school or to acquire employable skills.

Create awareness, let others know about the existence of trafficking. So that despite finding themselves in situations that make them vulnerable, they can protect themselves like the saying goes knowledge is power.

It is in our hands to create a better world for all who live in it. It could happen to anyone. We can be the generation to say enough is enough. Stop human trafficking and care for all.
