The International Day for Street Children 2023 was marked on the 12th of April 2023 with the theme β Keeping Street Children Safeβ.
In accordance with the saying β Nothing about us without us,β Safe-Child Advocacy organized a 1-day workshop for children in street situations. The workshop gave participants the platform to tell their stories and suggest ways their development and safety can be assured.
Participants shared their thoughts and feelings on safety on the street in a focus group discussion. They revealed vulnerability to sexual abuse, diseases, flooding, theft, cheating, and emotional abuse among others made them feel unsafe and would like government and other stakeholders to support them by protecting their rights and providing them with opportunities for skill training, and scholarships. Many thanks to Adamfo Ghana Netherlands, who supported us provide each girl with a pack of food, drink, and hygiene packs made up of toothpaste, toothbrush, washing soap, bathing soap, and sanitary pads.
