Today our girls participated in the maiden edition of the Captain One Golf Society junior tournament. The president of the Society was impressed with the performance of the girls and urged them to continue practicing for another championship.
The Director of Safe-Child Advocacy (SCA), Sr. Olivia Umoh, had the chance to exhibit her golfing skills. Donations of some golf-playing items were made to our girls.
On behalf of the Most Rev. Gabriel Justice Anokye, the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, the management, staff, and beneficiaries of SCA would like to express our deepest gratitude to all members of Captain one Golf Society and the trainers for giving our girls the chance to enter into this game of the elite. Safe-Child Advocacy begins a new working year with the Lord by having a retreat on stewardship for all staff. This was to empower staff to be responsible and manage roles assigned to them properly. The retreat ended with mass to commit all staff and the year into the hands of God to protect and keep us, bless our donors and our beneficiaries.
To work together as a team, a workshop on team building was organized for all staff. This workshop was an interactive one where staff shared their views on the need for an effective team, what we are ready to do to achieve effective teamwork, and the benefits of working as a team. This is to help all staff understand the need to work together to achieve a common goal as an organization.

All Children have a claim to certain rights as Right to Food, Right to Clothing, Right to Education, and Right to Good Health among others. However. The observance and protection of these child rights have often become a challenge especially to developing countries and for that matter, Ghana. Individuals and some groups do not want to hear the subject matter of Child Rights and they regard it as a cultural violation. That notwithstanding, the constitution of Ghana Chapter 5 provides for the protection of children’s rights, among others. The Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560) which protects children generally, Criminal Offences Amendment Act, 1998 (Act 554) which protects the child from sexual offenses, abduction, and abandonment, Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732) which protects children from violence in domestic settings just to mention a few.
Despite the legal frameworks both local and international, Child Rights violations are still very common in Ghana. It is a course for concern that, major social institutions that that are expected to provide protection for the Rights of the Child have rather become the setting for various forms of child rights abuses. Notable amongst them include the family; which is supposed to be a safe haven for a child to grow and harness his innate potential peacefully.
In view of this, the government of Ghana, through its social welfare institutions must interfere to protect the child from parental abuse and neglect.
